AC forward curved centrifugal fans use impellers with blade tips angled in the direction of rotation, which creates a velocity multiplier effect — these fans can produce very high airflow rates at moderate static pressures relative to their physical size and motor power. Forward curved centrifugal fans are the preferred choice for HVAC air handling units, where large volume airflow is needed with moderate duct resistance, and for applications requiring compact dimensions relative to airflow output. They are also widely used in fume extraction, dust collection systems with light loading, and industrial process ventilation. The main trade-off compared to backward curved impellers is lower aerodynamic efficiency — forward curved designs typically operate at 55-65 percent efficiency versus 70-85 percent for backward curved types. Important specification parameters include impeller diameter, motor speed (RPM), airflow (m3/h or CFM), static pressure (Pa or mm WG), and sound power level.
